Cyber crime encompasses a wide range of illegal activities carried out using technology, from identity theft and financial fraud to malicious attacks on critical infrastructure.

Tips for being cyber safe

Protect your OTP

• Never share your OTP with anyone.
• When giving OTP for verification, always read the OTP message again to check the sender and the purpose of OTP.
• Do not give applications permission to read message whereever not required. A malicious app may read OTP and send it to a fraudster.

Do not install unverified applications

• Never install apps on your mobile from APK file downloaded from internet. It may be a malicious software (malware) which can read your data and initiate bank account tranfers from your account.
• If you find any unknown apps on your mobile, immediately uninstall them.
• Always use Google Play Store or Apple App Store to install mobile applications.
• Do not install applications which are not verified.

Double check UPI transactions

• Before confirming a UPI transaction always double check the beneficiairy name and amount.
• Before making payment to any unknown person, always be skeptical that it may be a fraud. Check different types of frauds on this page to identify if a fraudster is trying to commit fraud.
• You do not need to enter MPIN to receive payment via UPI.

Beware of OLX scam

• When purchasing second hand items online, always verify items offline by meeting the person.
• Do not make payment without receiving your item.

Dial 1930 or visit your nearest Police Station if you have any doubt

• If you doubt that you someone is trying to commit cyber fraud on you, call 1930 or visit you nearest Police Station to verify.
