Fake investment scam
Date: 2024-07-24
Fraudsters have been relying on social media groups (Whatsapp, Telegram, Facebook etc.) to lure innocent victims by offering huge profits by investment in fake stock market, crypto currency etc.
Reg flags to look for:
- Unrealistic Promises: If an investment opportunity sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Be skeptical of promises of high returns with little to no risk.
- Lack of Transparency: Legitimate investments are accompanied by clear information about the company, investment strategy, and associated risks. Scammers, however, avoid providing concrete details or verifiable information.
- Pressure to Act Quickly: Scammers often create a false sense of urgency, urging you to invest before you have a chance to think things through or conduct proper research.
- Requests for Personal Information: Be wary of anyone asking for sensitive information like Social Security numbers, bank account details, or passwords.
- Inconsistencies and Errors: Poor grammar, spelling mistakes, or inconsistent information can be a sign of a scam.
